MASTER'S PROGRAM - COMPUTER SCIENCE

OVERVIEW

The Master’s program in Computer Science, offered by the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) –  VNU-HCM, provides students with a solid foundation in Computer Science and advanced professional skills in core and specialized areas such as Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering. The program aims to supply highly qualified human resources with in-depth expertise in Computer Science and related fields. Additionally, it contributes to enhancing research capacity and the development of science and technology, with the goal of addressing scientific and practical challenges at the national, regional, and international levels.

Upon graduation, master’s degree holders trained in the field of Computer Science will be able to:

  1. Possess comprehensive knowledge and skills to address problems within their trained area of expertise.
  2. Demonstrate a sound understanding of professional ethics.
  3. Exhibit awareness of leadership skills.  
  4. Be capable of engaging in continuous professional development in the future.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) encompass the expected knowledge, skills, autonomy, and responsibility levels of graduates, as detailed in the following table:

LEARNING DURATION

CURRICULUMN STRUCTURE

The standard duration of the program is 2 years. However, this duration may be reduced to 1.5 years for students who have completed equivalent courses in their undergraduate programs. The shortened study period will be determined by the Faculty/Department in charge of the respective specialization on a case-by-case basis.

TARGET APPLICANTS

Relevant and Suitable Fields

Applicants must have graduated from an accredited Bachelor’s program in Computer Science (52480101), or from related fields with similar training content.

For candidates who have graduated from undergraduate programs not listed in the Ministry of Education and Training’s official list of university programs, or those listed with a different name or code than Computer Science, but with similar training content, the University’s Admissions Board will review and make the final decision.

Related fields

Candidates who have graduated from accredited Bachelor’s programs in the following fields are considered related fields to Computer Science:

52480102 – Computer Communication and Networking

52480103 – Software Engineering

52480104 – Information Systems

52480201 – Information Technology (*)

52520214 – Computer Engineering (*)

 

(*) The Information Technology major (under the Information Technology group) and the Computer Engineering major (under the Electrical, Electronics, and Telecommunications Engineering group) are also considered related fields due to the similarities in the curriculum content. For candidates who graduate from undergraduate programs that are not listed in the Ministry of Education and Training’s official list of undergraduate programs or have a name and code different from the related fields mentioned above, but whose curriculum content is closely related to Computer Science, the university’s Admissions Council will review and make a decision. Candidates from the aforementioned related fields must supplement their knowledge to meet the requirements of the entrance exam for the Master’s program in Computer Science at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – VNU-HCM.
