DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS

The Department of Information Systems (DIS) is a major department with a significant influence and longstanding tradition in training, scientific research, and technology transfer in broad fields such as Computer Science, Information Management Systems, and Information Technology within the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University - HCM. The department focuses on developing expertise in Modern Information Systems, Information Management Systems, Data Science and Technology, Information Security, in the training of bachelor's, engineers, masters, and doctoral degrees, as well as in scientific research and technology transfer, addressing significant challenges faced by society.

The predecessor of the Information Systems Department (DIS) is the Database Department, established in 1993 along with the founding of the Information Technology Department (now the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. It was later renamed the Department of Information Systems in 2006 to align with societal development needs and accurately reflect the department's strengths. Currently, the department comprises 3 Associate Professors, 3 Ph.D. Lecturers, 1 Senior Lecturer, 5 Master's Lecturers, and 3 Lecturers pursuing doctoral research abroad.

FIELDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN TEACHING AND RESEARCH

Consistent with the development direction related to Modern Information Systems, Information Management Systems, Information Security, Data Science and Technology, the Department has led in the training of specialized areas such as Data Mining, Big Data Analytics, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Mobile Computing, and Information Security. The Department has educated thousands of bachelors, engineers; hundreds of masters, doctors, and capable experts with strong professional competence, creative thinking, and innovation, meeting the increasing demands of society as well as playing a leading role in guiding the development of the ICT and computer science industry nationally, regionally, and globally. Many alumni from the department hold key positions, leading in their fields in large companies, government agencies, research institutes, and reputable universities in Vietnam and the region. The department was the first in the country to train master's students in Management Information Systems (MIS) since 2007 and continues to grow to meet the society's demand in training mid-level and senior-level management in the management and strategic development of information technology in enterprises. The department has achieved many successes in scientific research and technology transfer in the fields of information systems, computer science, security, data science, big data mining, with hundreds of high-impact publications in reputable international journals and conferences, contributing positively to the development of society. The department has actively contributed as a key player in building and proposing research frameworks in the direction of developing the smart city ecosystem, applied to large cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, as well as research strategies suitable for the trends of digital transformation and the ongoing technology revolution 4.0.
