DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING

The Department of Computer Engineering (CE) is one of the five departments in the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE), formerly known as the Faculty of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), a member of Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City. The department was established concurrently with the founding of the faculty in 1993. Over the years, experiencing ups and downs, the CE department has gathered a team of experienced lecturers who have received systematic training from advanced countries, along with outstanding teaching assistants trained at HCMUT.

The CE department is primarily responsible for the undergraduate Computer Engineering program, one of the two ABET-accredited programs at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), alongside the Computer Science program within the same faculty.

FIELDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN TEACHING AND RESEARCH

At present, the CE department is primarily responsible for training computer engineers in the Computer Engineering program, offering specializations/directions such as:

– Modern Computing Systems: includes computing systems developed on embedded platforms or high-performance computing platforms using FPGA, VLSI circuits, multi-core computers/systems, parallel computing, and distribution.

– IoTs and Network Security: includes systems based on IoTs platforms such as environmental monitoring or automation systems, and high-speed network attack/defense systems using hardware acceleration with CPUs or FPGAs.

The faculty members of the department have led numerous research projects and technology transfer initiatives funded by international organizations such as JICA (Japan), AUN/SEED-Net (Southeast Asia University Network for Research and Education), SATU (Taiwan), US Army (United States), as well as various domestic organizations including HCMC National University, provincial/ municipal Departments of Science and Technology, and domestic companies/corporations such as VNG, Renesas, and Tiki. The department is currently engaged in collaborations with reputable universities such as the University of Electro-Communication (UEC) - Japan, the University of Porto - Portugal, Delft University of Technology - Netherlands, and National Chen Kung University (NCKU) - Taiwan.

The faculty members of the department have also published numerous articles in reputable international journals (SCI/SCIE/Scopus) and participated in prestigious international conferences.

The main research directions of the department include:

– Increasing processing performance with FPGA for applications ranging from machine learning to biological sequence alignment and various other applications.

– High-performance network attack prevention systems.

– Architectures of processors on FPGA: RISC-V or VLIW.

– Environmental monitoring systems for air and water to serve civil, agricultural, and aquaculture needs.

– Automatic control systems based on IoT and embedded technology.

– Applications based on blockchain technology and IoT.
